A MULGRAVE personal trainer who almost gave it all up to become a police officer has flexed her muscles to become Personal Trainer of the Year.

Emma Taylor won the inaugural Best Gym Instructor/Personal Trainer of the Year award at the Aquatic and Recreation Victoria Awards.

The 27-year-old Monash Aquatic and Recreation Centre (MARC) employee said she was “stunned” and “very excited” to win the award. A long-distance runner, Miss Taylor said she had wanted to become a police officer when she left high school.

After being told she needed more life experience, she worked for a few years in fitness, but when she applied again for the police force, she decided that fitness was where she belonged.

“I had a passion for health and fitness, so I made the decision to stick with personal fitness,” Miss Taylor said.

She won the award for developing personal training programs, including Monash’s successful Bootmarc program, as well as her motivational and customer service skills.

Miss Taylor said she used different ways to motivate her clients, depending on their personalities and what worked for them, and she herself was motivated by seeing others being dedicated to exercise.
